Gadgetabulous is an electronics buyback platform that pays consumers instant cash for their used iPhones, iPads, Mac minis, Apple Watches, and Android phones. We designed and built the entire product from scratch — brand, marketing site, customer quote flow, admin intake dashboard, and the operational integrations that make a real buyback business run.
The Challenge
- Sellers of used electronics get burned by sketchy meetups, lowball auction bids, and trade-in chains that quote one number online and pay a different one after inspection.
- The competing buyback services that exist look and feel like 2008 — dated UIs, unclear pricing, slow payouts, and zero brand trust.
- The team needed more than a website. They needed a real two-sided operation: an honest customer-facing flow, plus a back office that could actually intake, inspect, and pay out devices reliably.
- Every part of the experience had to feel trustworthy enough that a stranger would mail their iPhone to a warehouse and trust they’d get paid within 24 hours.
What We Built
Brand identity and design system. A modern, confidence-inspiring brand built around a green-to-cyan signature gradient, the Zalando Sans typeface, and a dark UI palette tuned for a premium-feel tech product. The system covers the logo lockup, app icon, color and type tokens, button and card patterns, and email templates — all documented so it scales as the product grows.
Custom Next.js application. Gadgetabulous.com is a custom-built Next.js 15 app deployed on Railway with a Postgres database. No template, no off-the-shelf cart, no Shopify. Every page, component, and API route is purpose-built for the buyback flow.
Instant-quote customer flow. Sellers pick their model, storage, and condition through the sell-your-electronics quote wizard and get a firm cash offer in seconds — not a vague trade-in range. They can sell an iPhone, sell an Android phone, sell an iPad, or sell a Mac mini, and add multiple devices to a single cart.
Admin intake dashboard. A password-protected operations console where the Gadgetabulous team tracks incoming devices, re-quotes after inspection, manages payouts, and updates order status. Built with the same design system as the customer site so the team works in a tool that feels like the product.
IMEI screening. Devices are validated on submission, including Luhn-checked IMEI numbers and blacklist/lock screening, so locked, blacklisted, or stolen devices are filtered out before they ship.
Prepaid shipping labels. Integrated with Shippo to generate real prepaid USPS labels the moment a seller accepts an offer. Every order gets a token-gated label page and a status-tracker page so customers can follow the journey from quote to payment.
Transactional email. Order confirmations and status updates (received, inspected, paid, rejected) sent through Resend, with branded templates that match the rest of the experience.
Hosting and ongoing growth. We manage the production deployment on Railway, monitor uptime, and run the ongoing SEO, content, and paid-ad work to drive qualified sellers to the site.
